We have a range of systems and structures in place to encourage and teach children to read – all try to embrace the very same approach of encouraging children to ‘read for pleasure’. We believe this is essential for longevity and success but also acknowledge that will not be a ‘given’ for all children.

Across the school, the children have daily opportunities to read (either independently, to another adult or as part of a group) and the expectation is that ALL children will read daily at home.

In FS, Year One and Two, the children can access ‘Bug Club’ which enables them to read e-books at home and complete short phonic/comprehension checks on completion.

From Years Two to Six, the children can access ‘Accelerated Reader’ which challenges them to complete short comprehension tests after reading real books!
